Weight Shift for Power

Weight Shift for Power and Accuracy Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. I'm at the Cimarron Golf Resort here in Palm Springs CA and today we're going to talk about a way to create more power, more distance with all of your shots. A very simple thing we can do, from at the top of the backswing step down more aggressively onto the front foot. Instead of just a very casual weight shift on to the le...

How Much Wrist Hinge on Wedge Shots Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. I am at the Cimarron Golf Resort here in Palm Springs, California. Long Green-side Bunker Golf Shot
Переглядів 8394 роки тому
Today I find myself in a green side bunker about 35 yard from the pin. Normally when I end up in a green side bunker, I will use my 60-degree, or maybe 56-degree wedge. But this is a much longer shot. So, what club shall I use? I could swing harder or put the ball back in my stance. But in this case, I think the best option is the simple option. I am going to use my pitching wedge. I will hit a...
Determine Club Carry Distance to Score Better

Good morning, Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf at the Cimarron Golf Resort, Palm Springs, California. Today we are talking about a method to determine the exact carry* of each one of your clubs. It is very important to know carry distance. If I am hitting over a bunker or water hazard, I need to know where the ball is going to land. Below is a method to determine club carry distance. The first...

Pitching to Elevated Green

Today we are talking about pitching to an elevated green. As you can see, I’ve missed this green. I can see the pin, but I can not see the green’s surface. The problem is, I do not know how much green there is to work with. I could end up hitting the ball too short or too long. So, this simple little piece of advice, whenever you are in the situation where you can see the pin but cannot see the...

Putting Downhill to Green Good afternoon, Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf at the Cimarron Golf Resort, Palm Springs, California. Because with a wedge it is difficult to hit your shot downhill and control the distance of that pitch out and unto the ...
Pitching with Lag

Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. I am at the Cimarron Golf Resort here in Palm Springs, California. Today we are talking about pitching with lag. Maintaining the angle between the lead arm and the club shaft, permits the clubhead to reach the bottom of the swing at just the right time. This timing...

Hit the Golf Ball Farther with Increased Strength and Flexibility

Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. Today we are going to talk about hitting the ball farther. This is probably the number one request I have from students. Hit Solid Golf Pitch Shots

Today we are talking about hitting crisp pitch shots by stabilizing center of gravity points. There are three center of gravity points we will be concerned with. The final point is between the hips right below the belly button. For...
Make Three and Four Foot Putts

Here is a simple method to make those tricky little three- and four-foot putts. 1. The first thing to do is view the putt from a distance. Stand back behind the ball on short putts and analyze the putt. Is the path to the cup uphill, downhill, sidehill? Because my putt is just a short three- to four-footer and there is not a lot of downhill or side to side, I am going to hit right to the back o...

    I just tried the one arm style, purposely not adding the second hand - my issue has always been that I'm quite a muscular guy, but with very narrow shoulders (bone structure-wise), so my triceps and lats are extremely tight together. This makes any sort of shoulder/upper torso rotation without moving anything else nearly impossible - the one arm technique has instantly become more consistent both in accuracy and in pace control than 15 years (very intermittent) of classic putting techniques. I have a thick handle center shaft face balanced mallet style putter for reference. Might just be the weird guy on the course who putts with one arm from now on - thanks for posting this video!

    I always find aiming with your mind is much more effective than trying to line things up and hit the stroke based on that line. Growing up playing hockey made this easy. Applying it to golf makes a lot of sense. Great tip

    So if I feel more comfortable and in better control just using my left hand should I be putting with a left handed putter?

    • @CahillGolf
      @CahillGolf 10 місяців тому

      Not unless you feel more comfortable and in control using a lefty putter. Totally fine if not better to have the lead arm being the dominant arm in the stroke. I ‘d also suggest playing around with a left hand low grip and see how it feels.

    great tip. So I need to ask you a quiestion. I was a fair putter on fast greens once I got a lite putter. I now have moved and the local course has very slow greens. If I hit hard enough to get there my line suffers. Would it be a help if I got a heavier putter to get more speed on the ball without hitting it harder

    • @CahillGolf
      @CahillGolf 10 місяців тому

      Generally speaking there is a well developed idea of using a heavier putter on slower greens however most confident putters don’t switch putter weights or swing weights between different length greens. I’d suggest getting used to one putter weight until it’s your best friend. The. just practicing different length putts in the practice green before your round for ten to fifteen minutes.

    Wow! Putting woes solved at long last! The calculated & gentle folding of my lead elbow turned out to be my putting Holy Grail, missing link! Now I'm making almost all the short putts I was missing and much better leaves w/ longer ones! Thank you for this most helpful video! (Now if I could just find a swing fix as effective as this putting fix! Lol)

    When practicing in the house and on the course, I have noticed that when putting multiple balls i can get them to stop all lined up. I putted last year one handed and noticed that i was gauging speed great. Next problem was reading the green. Lol but i find it very conformable. Also you can carry your clubs in your other hand to speed up your round.

    never seen a tour player putt with right hand only

    • @CahillGolf
      @CahillGolf Рік тому

      There are tons of instances where tour players have used a one handed putting stroke. You can do a quick google search to find a multitude of examples. That being said we are not suggesting adopting a 1 handed putting stroke for sole use while putting. The video suggests trying a putting stroke that uses a single dominant arm while putting rather than having both arms in unison or worse fighting each other. Using a single arm stroke while practicing may or may not help you hole more putts, but it’s a simple thing to try and it certainly won’t hurt your current stroke if feels uncomfortable.

    So how long should the putter be dependent upon a persons size? Also how much flex in the knees and bend at the waist. You don’t seem to mention that and it’s obviously important in terms of set up

    • @CahillGolf
      @CahillGolf Рік тому

      Generally speaking I and most other instructors would suggest addressing the ball in their most comfortable position. That would be a relaxed athletic position that you body naturally wants to be in at address. This will make your routine repeatable, which is more important than an arbitrary exact angle for hip and knee bend. A couple things dictate good setup like the ball position being under or outside your eye line and where you have the in your stance (front or middle). Some players address the ball square and some with their body a little open, both are fine. Neither Dave or myself are the type of instructors that will give ever player an exact knee bend angle and waist bend angle. In my opinion that would destroy almost any players ability to putt with any grace. To put it simply as far as address goes. Get comfortable with decent ball positions and get a putter fit correctly from there, from a professional. It’s not possible to fit based on height or size. I hope this helps. -Mike Cahill

    I like it but how about hinging the right wrist Only while the elbow stays still against the side. I noticed the old pros like Bobby Jones simply hinged the wrist.

    • @CahillGolf
      @CahillGolf Рік тому

      The old “hinge the wrist” style was used on the greens that were much longer and much rougher than todays green and modern agronomy practices and machinery. It’s produced more of a low chip than a modern style that gets the ball rolling quickly. All that being said I like to see people try everything and see how it works for them. If your making putts with it by all means use it.

    A longer thumb works well for me. I tend to cup my wrists at the top of the swing and a longer thumb helps that and makes my swing steadier. Also with a longer thumb grip it causes me to less likely re-grip during my swing and puts more pressure on my lower fingers.
